Weekend Football Recap: A Mix of Thrills, Postponements, and Dominance

Premiership

The weekend's Premiership fixtures brought a mix of anticipation and frustration as Mother Nature had her say. Highgrove's encounter with Newburgh Harrock Utd was postponed due to adverse weather conditions, leaving fans disappointed. Similarly, Standish St Wilfrid’s versus Shevington FC and Tarleton Corinthians against Preston Wanderers were also victims of the unpredictable British weather, resulting in their postponement.

In a break from the weather-induced disappointments, Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs faced off against Eccleston & Heskin. The match unfolded with Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs delivering a commanding 6-0 victory, with a 2-0 lead at halftime. The goal parade included stellar performances by Thomas Taylor-Hampson (13 mins), Connor Tierney (30 mins), Daniel Cattlin (48 mins), Christy Devlin (60 mins), and substitutes Jake Graham (74 mins) and Thomas Elliot Haworth (82 mins). The dominance of Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs provided a silver lining amidst the rain-drenched schedule.

Division One

Division One provided football enthusiasts with a thrilling weekend, with Broughton Amateurs and Norcross FC delivering a captivating 2-2 draw in a top-of-the-table clash. Broughton Amateurs displayed their fighting spirit, with goals from Liam Bell and Zachariah Adeoye (sub), while Norcross FC's scorers remained a mystery. The fixture showcased the competitive nature of Division One, leaving fans eager for the next showdown.

In another enticing matchup, Astley FC faced Sir Tom Finney FC, with Astley FC emerging victorious with a 2-1 scoreline. Jack Brindle and Luke Robinson were the heroes of the day, delivering the crucial goals. Unfortunately, the scorer for Sir Tom Finney FC was not documented, adding an air of mystery to the encounter. The intensity of the Division One battles continued to captivate football fans.

However, unfavourable weather conditions resulted in the postponement of the Cherrybrook versus Standish St Wilfrid’s Reserves fixture, leaving fans patiently waiting for the rescheduled clash in the future.

Division Two

The action in Division Two was nothing short of electrifying as New Longton Rovers Reserves faced off against Broughton Amateurs AFC Reserves. Broughton Amateurs AFC Reserves showcased their prowess with a convincing 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Levi Barnes and Ben Ryan. Their solid performance left a lasting impression on fans, and they secured a well-deserved win.

In another riveting contest, Ribchester Rovers Reserves demonstrated their attacking prowess with a stunning 3-0 victory over Wyre Villa Reserves. The goal parade included impressive strikes from Matt Howarth, Thomas Ormisher, and Anthony Smalley. However, the match also saw some drama, with a yellow card shown to Wyre Villa player Nicholas Hartley and a red card for Adam Stafford from Wyre Villa. Despite the cards, Ribchester Rovers Reserves stood tall.

Shevington FC Reserves clashed with AFC Ainsdale in a highly competitive encounter, with the latter emerging as the winners with a 4-2 scoreline. The first half saw a 1-1 draw, but the second half witnessed a flurry of goals. Joseph Winstanley was the standout scorer for Shevington FC, netting goals at the 2nd and 55th minutes. However, the scorers for AFC Ainsdale remained undocumented, adding an element of mystery to their victory. The Division Two battles provided a thrilling spectacle for football enthusiasts.

Guildhall Cup - Round 1

The Guildhall Cup's Round 1 presented a mixed bag of excitement and delays. Appley Bridge's clash with Hoole United had to be postponed, with the match rescheduled for the 18th of November, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the showdown.

Similarly, Gables FC's fixture against Ribchester Rovers was also postponed, with the same rescheduled date set for the 18th of November. The unfortunate delays due to unforeseen circumstances were a source of frustration for both players and supporters.

However, the weekend wasn't without its share of drama and entertainment. Middleton & Overton Sports FC and Fleetwood Hesketh locked horns in an intense battle that concluded in a 2-2 draw. The game proceeded to a penalty shootout, where Fleetwood Hesketh emerged victorious with a 5-4 scoreline. The scorers for MOSports were not documented, leaving fans curious about the heroes behind the goals. In contrast, Fleetwood Hesketh's Frankie Pearson shone brightly, scoring twice to lead his team to victory. Middletonn & Overton Sports FC will have a second chance in the Lancastrian Brigade Cup, providing a silver lining in the midst of postponements and penalties.

Liverpool FA Saturday Intermediate Cup

In the realm of the Liverpool FA Cups, the weekend unfolded with triumph and heartache. Our team, Bickerstaffe Reserves, faced a stern challenge in the Liverpool FA Saturday Intermediate Cup against Mexoc First, representing the Liverpool Old Boys Amateur Football Leagues. Unfortunately, Bickerstaffe's journey came to an abrupt end as they were defeated by Mexoc First, marking the end of their campaign in the competition.

Meanwhile, Woolston Rovers Third Team encountered the formidable Burscough Dynamo in an intense battle. The contest resulted in a resounding 0-6 victory for Burscough Dynamo, who showcased their attacking prowess. Lewis Corke and Callum Gamble (x2) were among the scorers who left their mark on the game, along with Robert Hill, Tom Watkins, and Jack Wilde. Woolston Rovers, who compete in the Warrington & District Football League, faced a tough challenge in the Liverpool FA Saturday Intermediate Cup. With this victory, Burscough Dynamo progresses to the next round, continuing their journey in the competition.

Liverpool FA Saturday Junior Cup

In a spirited clash, Valley Old Boys faced off against Bickerstaffe, with both teams aiming to secure victory. The first half concluded with a 1-1 deadlock, highlighting the closely contested nature of the match. Valley OB, hailing from the Liverpool Old Boys Amateur Football League, displayed their determination on the field. However, it was Bickerstaffe who ultimately emerged as the dominant force, delivering a commanding 6-1 victory. The match showcased Bickerstaffe's strength and goal-scoring prowess, leaving their opponents with a tough challenge. The weekend's football action witnessed an exciting battle between these two determined teams, ultimately favouring Bickerstaffe.
