Legends Clash: Colne Vets Triumph in Thrilling Semi-Final Showdown

The second semi final of the Lancashire FA County Veterans Cup saw Colne Vets take on Euxton Villa Vets, two of the Mid Lancashire Veterans League teams, at the Bamber Bridge Sports Hub.

This was a competitive game between two teams who belied their Veterans status. Colne took the lead in the 12th minute when Mark Threlfall won the race to a through ball and rounded the keeper to slot the ball home. The score of 1-0 at half time was doubled in the 62nd minute with an excellent strike from the edge of the penalty area by Adrian Cheetham which curled into the top left hand corner of the net.

Euxton were not to be outdone and Daniel Morris pulled a goal back in the 88th minute with a strike from just inside the penalty area to set up a potentially nervous last few minutes. However Colne made it 3-1 when Liam Garbutt went on a run into the penalty area and calmly slotted the ball beyond the keeper in the last minute of added time.

The game was a credit to the fitness and commitment of both teams . Colne will now go onto the final where they will play Bamber Bridge Vets also from the Mid Lancashire Veterans League. Bamber Bridge recorded a 4-0 victory against Fylde Coast Soccer Vets in the first semi final.

The final will be held at the Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland.
