Press Release: Villa Appoint Reserve Manager

Wyre Villa have completed their search for a new reserve team manager.

New football graduate Sam Weeden has been appointed to the steer the newly reformed reserve side into the Mid Lancs League.

“I've just finished my degree in Football Management and Coaching. I was very lucky to learn my trade from top academy coaches and some big names in the game.”

Weeden is from Over Wyre and his local knowledge will help develop the player pathway between Wyre Villa and Wyre Juniors.
“Growing up in the area I know Wyre Villa can be a big part of the local community again.

“Part of the role which attracted me was the idea we can bring young Wyre Junior players through to the first team. That will help bring that big community feel back to Wyre Villa and the local area around Stalmine, Preesall and Hambleton."

Reflecting on his first training session on Tuesday, the 21 year old was pleased with his players.

“I think the lads did really well. We have a lot of talent and there's some areas that need improving but that's why I'm here. There are gaps and we are actively recruiting new players for the reserve team.

“If we pull everything together we can have two good teams this season.”

The new coach doesn't have long to wait before seeing his side in action. Villa visit Southport Hesketh this Saturday for a 1pm kick-off.

“I'm really looking forward to this weekend. It's a good opportunity for me to assess the levels of the squad. It's one thing seeing the lads in training but I need to look at match fitness, ability and decision making in a game setting.
Saturday's friendly will be played at Edge Hill University L39 4QP."
